Woah. When I fired up the Warlords: Crystals of Power game, I thought I was at the screening of the newest Hollywood fantasy blockbuster. This video slot is a real looker! And dramatic. It made my wee Wombat fur stand on end, I can tell you. It joins a long line of fantasy games like the Avalon slot machine and Miss Midas.

It’s set in a time where rulers went out of their way to conquer land and riches. Sounds like the US Presidential election!
Not quite….in the Warlords slot, there have been years of war and pillaging and only three rulers remain: The Barbarian, The Priestess and The Samurai. It’s dog eat dog and there can be only One! Visually, it’s stunning to look at, there’s no doubt about that. There are Priestesses, Samurais, Wolves, a big old hairy dude with a hipster beard (his pet wild boar looks a bit scary) and of course the Crystals of Power (try saying that without thumping your chest and booming it out like Oliver Reed- impossible!)
The basic format of the Warlords: Crystals of Power™ slot game is 5-reels, 3-rows, 30 fixed lines with Wilds, lots of stacked symbols, Scatter symbols, Re-Spins, Free Spins and a Random Wild.
That doesn’t sound too out of the ordinary, does it, until you realise that there are 3 different scatter symbols- a red, green and a blue one.
But first, let’s talk you through the wild feature, as this is a bit different too.
Random Overlay Wild

Scatters and Free Spins
As we mentioned above, the Warlords: Crystals of Power online slot centers around an epic battle between three different rulers – the barbarian, the priestess and the samurai. That’s why there are 3 different scatters in this game: the blue one gets you Barbarian free spins, the green Priestess free spins and the red Samurai spins.
When the scatter symbols dropped in while I was playing it, it had me running around for the nearest fire extinguisher as all the remaining reels started to go up in flames. I almost threw my Wombatphone into the river!
If you are in the base game, the Scatters will each trigger a different bonus feature- either 3 Free Spins, 1 Multiplier or 1 Sticky Wild.
Plus, you’ll win Re-Spins when 2 or more Scatter symbols land on the
reels. Scatter symbols show up on the middle 3 reels (2, 3 and 4) except during Re-Spins when they can show on all 5 reels.
If all the Scatters are the same colour, the Re-Spin kicks off straight away and if they are different , they transform at random and then the Re-Spin starts.

Let’s look at some of the other features quickly, as to be honest, it’s pretty complicated and you’re probably better off just getting stuck in and playing for yourself.
Battle
The warlords frequently wager war against each other and the battle feature is activated frequently. If you get 2 different Scatter symbols, 1 Scatter symbol is picked at random (well, there’s a battle first)- it then morphs into the other symbol so you get your Re-Spins. Which scatter is chosen is down to luck.
Then, if 2 identical scatters show up on the reels along with another different scatter symbol, the Scatters will, after a battle, morph into identical scatters before the Re-Spins kick off.
You’ve got a 75% chance of getting 3 scatters the same as the 2 original identical ones.
You can also get 3 scatters that are all different- in which case you have an equal chance of 2 of them morphing into the third.
Re-Spins
While the respins are going, the active Scatters are frozen, and you
can re-trigger respins with new Scatter symbols. Yay!
You’ll need 3 or more Scatters to set off the free Spins. If you didn’t manage to set off the Free Spins after your respins (i.e. you didn’t land any more scatter symbols), you have one final chance to trigger them.
Final Chance- The Last Chance Saloon
If all else fails to get you the 3 scatters, you’ll get a “Last Chance Saloon” feature which is either a coin win (3 to 100 times the bet) or you’ll get that additional Scatter symbol you need which will appear randomly on the reels.

The Free Spins
There are 3 different colours of scatters, and this means 3 types of free spins! The Barbarian Free Spins, (blue Scatter) gets you at least 9 Free Spins. He’s the big old hairy dude with the hipster beard.

Then there’s the Priestess Free Spins, (green Scatter) who will give you 7 Free Spins.
And finally, Mr Swordsman himself, the Samurai (red Scatter) will give you 5 Free Spins.
On each Free Spin game, the reels only contain the same type of Scatter symbol as the original activating colour.
The Scatters that land during Free Spins will not set off Re-Spins, but they will trigger features that will depend on the Free Spins Game you are playing.
So, for example, in the Old Hairy Dude Free Spins, only the warrior and animal symbols show and if you get a new Scatter you get 3 extra Free Spins.
In the Priestess version, more Scatters increase the multiplier x1 for each
Scatter.

Summary
When you join this tale, only 3 Warlords remain; the powerful
Priestess, fierce Samurai and menacing Barbarian. Who survives and triumphs? Look, unless you spent your formative years locked up in the cupboard under the stairs playing fantasy role playing games with your spotty adolescent mates, you won’t have a clue what I’ve been banging on about for the last 10 minutes.
But that’s OK! Because, to be honest, this is a complicated game with a ton of features, and your best bet is to just fire it up and give it a go- you’ll soon get the hang of it. I must admit, even I raised a tentative single right-hand wombat eyebrow as I was reading through the game instructions, and I play a lot of slots. You’ll notice that there is a little ticker tape with games tips that runs underneath, so the designers must have realised that it’s a complicated game to get to grips with.
But once I got stuck in, I really enjoyed this game. It’s what the Game of Thrones Slot should have looked like if they’d been a bit more adventurous (having said that, we like the GOT slot just because it’s simple. You can’t have everything I guess).
